8" Seax - Forged
Something a little different form me... my first Seax and first forged blade that is available.
Forged out of 26C3 carbon steel with a Hamon (differentially hardened). The Hamon is achieved by traditional methods as used by Japanese swordmakers - at the edge, the steel is very hard (63 HRC), above the Hamon line the steel is softer which will give the blade strength and toughness. Solid Nickel Silver bolster with a hammered texture and a stabilized Spalted Beech handle. Stabilized wood has been impregnated with a hard resin that provides a degree of water resistance but is also far less likely to crack or warp. Nickel Silver main pin that has been peened, domed and given a satin finish. A veg-tanned leather sheath made by my hands with saddle stitching and some toolwork compliments the piece and will keep your Seax secure and at-hand.
I enjoyed making this traditional piece and it feels so good in the hand - razor sharp too! With the traditional design, the forged texture, hammered bolster and the blade-heavy heft, it really evokes feelings of times gone by.
