Sgian Dubh 'Scavaig'

Sgian Dubh 'Scavaig'

The heirloom quality  Sgian Dubh 'Scavaig' features a  broad blade with a solid bolster that sits proud of the handle and a pommel. The 'Scavaig' has more of a traditional, rustic feel compared to the more dressy 'Coruisk' design.

The blade is crafted in a high-end stainless (normally Bohler N690) or a carbon steel. The stainless blades have a satin finish whereas the carbon blades can be finished with a stonewash, blued or randon blued patina. BALETA Handmade Sgian Dubhs not only look great, but they also have great performance and can be used in the field as a highly capable EDC or hunting knife. The blade also features detailed filework on the spine.

The bolster is solid metal, and not just a ferrule (metal band around the wood) - Brass or Copper is normally used. Keeping with the tradition of a Sgian Dubh, the handle center is normally a darker wood. The pommel is chosen to compliment the handle centre and features a mosaic pin.

The sheath is 100% handmade in-house with saddle stitching and simple toolwork to match the color and feel of the knife.

Starting at 390 Euro, the Scavaig is a special Sgian Dubh to compliment a kilt outfit and can be proudly passed down to future generations. Please get in touch to discuss your custom Scavaig build.
