Service Description
Make your own knife! We offer knife-making courses based out of our workshop in Milton Keynes. Aimed at the beginner and intermediate maker over a weekend (2 full days) you will be able to make your own small/medium sized kitchen or outdoor knife in stainless steel, with a hardwood handle, from scratch. We start with and overview of the process and some theory around knife design. You can choose on of our trusted blade patterns, bring a design you'd like to make... or create your own! From there we will move on to the materials - the bar of steel we will fashion into a working tool and have a look at what handle materials to use. With a plan in place... we'll then start working with the materials. At the end of the first day, we should have a basic heat-treated blade and have prepared our handle material. Day two we will refine and finish the blade by handle before getting to work building our handle. After lunch we will shape and finish the handle before the final step of getting an edge on the blade and turning into a useful tool that you will have for life. Small classes (max. 2 persons) ensure you get the most out of this hands-on experience. All materials, consumables, tools, lunch and tea/coffee provided and the course will normally run from 09h00 to 17h00 on each day. Unfortunately, because of current UK legislation, attendees have to be over the age of 18.
